The topic of sustainability has also arrived in architecture and industry. An old department store with an adjoining multi-story car park, standing vacant for many years, was brought back to life and transformed into a true “creative cosmos.”
Instead of demolishing the buildings, they were transformed and opened up for new uses. This fundamental attitude
aligns perfectly with the Smartvillage philosophy and
creates the ideal setting for another location in Berlin.
“Welcome to your Festival” is the theme of the newly
designed 5,600 m² space in Kalle Neukölln.
On the first floor, 13 unique and flexible workshop, meeting, and conference rooms were created. Together with the SmartCafe, Welcome Area, and Wunderbar, the innovative room concept forms generous communication and collaboration areas — bringing new brilliance to the
former parking structure.
On the ground floor, an 830 m² MusicHall with an amphitheater was created. The requirement here was
to design a highly adaptable event location that offers everything technically and acoustically necessary for
after-work parties, product shows, or concerts.
Another highlight can be found on the building’s rooftop garden. Two light-filled greenhouses complete the Smartvillage playground and offer guests additional possibilities for meeting or workshop rooms.
The most important requirement was to implement the design concept within only four months. Special attention was paid
to the sustainability of materials and products. In addition to new flexible conference furniture, trade-fair returns or furniture from office clearances were integrated into the design concept in such a way that they appear as if they had
been planned for it from the beginning.
The idea behind this is to give the furniture a second home
— and become a true “furniture rescuer.”
